September, 2007 Beginning September 17, several areas of the community are slated to have electric cable replaced. ComEd is subcontracting the work to Trench-it, Inc. Prior to the work commencing, residents in the affected areas will receive a notice from ComEd, as well as a “door-hanger” notice from Trench-it. On the door-hanger notice will be listed project managers’ names and numbers if the resident has additional questions or experiences trouble. Here is a brief overview of the project: 1. Approximately 8443 feet of direct buried URD cable will be replaced. 2. It is estimated that it will take approximately 11 construction days to complete. 3. The planned start date of the project is September 17, weather permitting, with an estimated October 3 finish date, again, weather permitting. The order of the repairs has not yet been established 4. Final landscaping is scheduled for 3 weeks after cable
installation. ComEd has budgeted 15 million dollars statewide and prioritized those areas deemed most in need of cable replacement. Due to the failing insulation in some of our community’s underground cables, we qualify to have approximately 1.6 miles worth of cable replaced. ComEd has indicated that it should not be necessary to take homes out of service to affect the cable replacement, nor should we experience brown-outs. The affected customers will receive a follow-up questionnaire after the project is complete. As part of the refurbishment of the infrastructure, but not part of
the Cable Replacement Program, several thousand feet of cable has been
and continues to be injected with a silicon solution, which adds a
minimum of 20 years of life to the cable. |
